Sci Fi or Fantasy Prize Package that includes an iPad2 anyone? Cyber Monday Deal On redbubble!

My Redbubble

The Sci Fi Mob

The Fantasy Mob

Okay there's a 15% off Your entire purchase redbubble sale coupon just rolled out for all cyber monday (now that it has started being cyber monday in some places and lasting till it's not monday anywhere anymore 'cuz the bubble is international)

Here's how it works: you choose a fan mob, and the more people who join a fan mob, the more stuff gets thrown on the prize pile, so to help the prize pool get more awesome than it already is (they started with a kick ass limited editon LOTR for the fantasy pool, and some super Awesome Star Trek Swag in the Sci Fi pool)

Now here's how you enter for the contest to WIN, Use a code,
Either
SCIFI99
Or
FANTASY22

to get 15% off your entire purchase. The discount is the same either code. The Only difference is you are entering to win the Sci Fi Prize package OR the Fantasy Package

So joining a mob helps the prize get more awesome, and using the code enters you to win the prize, But my understanding is you do NOT have to join a mob to use the code, or make a purchase to win (you can enter the code here instead)

Basically you could by a sticker from me, use the code, get 15% off your sticker (on top of any bulk discounts the system automatically applies, for instance at 6 stickers you are only paying for 3, and this would be on top of that discount, and that all comes out of redbubbles' chunk of money, I still get paid the same) and then on top of that you would be entered to win the prize package.

Now these aren't any rinky dink prize packages, these are major swag boxes of extreme awesomeness.

The sci fi package starts off with
a Star Trek Tri-Dimensional Chess Set by the Franklin Mint with William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy signed photographs
1 × iPad 2
1 × $50 iTunes gift card
1 × iPhone case
1 × Poster
2 × T-Shirts
10 × Stickers

the fantasy package started off with
A 1st impression of the one volume De Luxe Edition of the Lord of the Rings, published by Allen & Unwin in 1969.
1 × iPad 2
1 × $50 iTunes gift card
1 × iPhone case
1 × Poster
2 × T-Shirts
10 × Stickers

and as the mobs growing they are adding UP to
25 Stickers, 3 Hoodies, 4 Posters, 4 iPhone cases and 6 T-shirts to the packages!

(for more details on the details see this edition of the weekly wrap on redbubble)

These codes are for EVERYTHING I sell on redbubble, Stickers, kids tees, adult tees, prints, cards, posters, and, iphone4 cases

And the discount is off your entire purchase! Plus you are supporting the arts and don't have to go anywhere, and everything will get there in time for the holidays!

So I hope you find something you like, and I also hope one of you wins the fantastic prizes!

Back from the trip

Actually I got back late on Monday, but have been recovering from the altitude and the lack of moisture for the last two days.

Every place we'd planned to go on Saturday was CHOKED with people so no trip to Virginia City this time. Which means the architectural doo dads I'd been planning on sketching and photographing there were lost. But we did go quite a few other places and I got a lot of other "little details" to work from.

I got about 210 pictures and about 48 or so of them are usable for fodder, not very much sketching because I got the feeling others didn't want to wait while I sketched. But still lots of usable fodder was gotten.

Also I've made some necklaces on zazzle.

Time for some Painting Fodder

Tomorrow I will be leaving town (laptop is coming with me, Boyfriend is not. so not putting anything in vacation mode as I'll have a computer with me and a pair of hands at home to ship things).

I will be gone till next Monday. I'm going to be at WorldCon on Friday helping friends throw a room party. The rest of the time I will be wandering around acquiring painting fodder and staying with my folks for a visit.

So far I have been informed we will be going to Virginia City, Taylor Creek, and a new hiking area my folks found that I can't recall the name of. I am going to have my eye out for tiny things, I wants some little detail-y things to work from this time. I'm bringing several travel art options including the travel watercolor stuff and the sketch box along with camera just in case I can't get them to stop while I sketch and paint. Not bringing the field easel, pretty sure I don't want to cart it around and it takes too long to set up when other people are waiting on you.

I'll probably update here at least once or twice and maybe have some pictures to share. I most likely won't be posting new works for sale though as I am not sure I can make my mom's scanner talk to my laptop.

This should be fun!

More Kitty Friends

Yesterday's kitty was a little late because of errand running, I started him before I left and lo, and/or, behold, he actually waited patiently right where I left him to be finished. It may be interesting to note that as I was uploading him and scanning him in, The Georgie Cat (who is the mother of all the other cats), was staring at him as if to say "When you are done with that give him to me so I can clean his head."

And this is this mornings' little friend, I think there might be two more of these total,  I have the style I want for the illustrations worked out, so the next step will be to plan out the pages of the story, and figure out what I actually need the kitties to be doing in each illustration.

I know...

That if I update things like my CV and such as interesting things, art wise, happen to me it would be better. Like I wouldn't have to go searching for links and how much a thing sold for, and what exactly the details of the show were in one big chunk of annoying computer-ness every six months or so.

Also, I know that it's better to keep everything current because it's more impressive than "Nothing for six months and then sudden spew of stuff"

So, to that end, I've added my CV to my blog (You can view it by going to that page from the nav bar above). Because it will be easier and quicker to update than refreshing the CV .pdf on my website.

AND, I have decided I like the idea of a weekly "I really like how this turned out and I am surprised no one else seems to" Post.

So here is the first one

The story behind this Painting;
On the shores of Lake Tahoe, at Emerald Bay, there is a Historical Landmark mansion called Vikingsholm .
Lake Tahoe, as you may know, is nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and being so high up has a very short summer, weather wise. One spring when I was there, there were wheelbarrows of spring flowers around waiting to be put out in garden beds, including this lovely blue wheelbarrow overflowing with golden daffodils. The sunlight was filtering through the trees and the blooms were glowing from it. It occurred to me that it was kind of charming that spring arrived in wheelbarrows full of flowers.
It is 16"x20" on a Canvas Panel.

I am toying with the idea

Of culling a lot of stuff off of various venues. I mean the listing would be hidden from public or made inactive.

Here's why:

It looks cluttered

And

There is actually some stuff up that I don't like, and that no one else seems to find particularly fantastic either. I mean that's okay, they can't all be home runs, but some of the stuff I don't care for how it turned out, have featured/treasury'd/collection'd/been commented well on, and I should probably leave those up.

You know, because I am not always the best judge... it's very easy when you are the artist to look at a finished work and say "That did not get to the place I was going." But very hard to tell if it got someplace else entirely for someone else. So when I get positive feedback on one I feel missed the mark I wonder about it, not because I don't trust others' opinions, but because I don't see what I wanted and that kind of blinds me to what others might see.

Ah, the fun of subjectivity  in art, everyone sees it different. Even me.

But there's some that have just been duds. It didn't get where I was going, and while a technically proficient piece, also failed to go anywhere for anyone else.

There's also some I really like but no one else seems to. I might have to do a special feature "Things I like that no one else does" or something, I guess it could be people missed it or something, give those a little push publicity wise.

Anyway, if you like something and want me to leave it up so you can buy it at some point, leave me a comment. Nothing will be "Gone" just hidden to clean up the shop and make it all a little more tidy, If I hid something you liked, feel free to let me know and I will unhide it.

When the new ArtFire shop make-overs go into effect I want my store to look neat and friendly and organized. I'm gonna try to cull back to one page in each shop section.

Also I am gonna go through redbubble and clean up a little there too... I have to take out things that have no views, features, and, no comments as it's making for a mess on their new interface. (their new interface is fine... it's way better than the old one, but it's a little cluttered with as much stuff as I have up there.)

Also there's some shirt designs that have no sales and no comments/favorites and no features... but oddly enough I don't think there's any up that are missing all three... but if there are they'll be coming down.

Except for the conversational compass, 'cause , while no one on redbubble seems to like it, the button I did on cafépress sold pretty good on there, so people get it, and like it, I think it just maybe can't be found , cause I think I marked it NSFW which I would change except Redbubble got their squinky handed to them about NSFW works a while back and being really strict with what is and isn't work-safe.

Just a Quick Sketch today

blah blah blah blog

I am very tired and may have to elaborate on this later, but I am sort of wary of a any art or discussion of art that makes my brain go "blah blah blah ginger."

I mean I know sometimes I go off on overly art speak tangents, but I think mostly when I do I am explaining a technique or tool or if discussing critique I am keeping it simple and communicative.

I am referring here to overly involved "I paid for these words with my tuition check and better use them"  discussions. Regurgitated coursework. That sort of thing.

When I worked as an operator for the phone company, we'd get a lot of Spanish speakers, and since when I was a drama filled teen (we all were, don't judge, you were too) my PLAN FOR LIFE was to be in Paris wandering around painting I took French all thru jr high, high school, and college. My Spanish is not functional. I cannot speak it at all. and I should have taken some Spanish at least a semester or two. But since I live where I do, I understand pretty much anything said to me in Spanish, I just don't command a vocabulary capable of responding with any accuracy.

When spanish speaking people would call in, I found that as long as I paid attention to what I was saying, visualized the point I was trying to get across, and meant what I said and said what I meant in English, then the Spanish speaker and I could understand each other with very little problem. Of course these were simple phone interactions having to do mostly with the operation of the phone itself.

But I found that the meaning what you say and visualizing to get your point across also works when explaining things to students and people who don't know what you are discussing as well. For instance if I were explaining how to prepare a canvas, I had better luck teaching it when I visualized it while I was speaking.

If you are talking about things and don't understand them yourself it makes it very hard for people to follow what you are saying, so if you are just spewing words you think will impress people, everyone can tell and it shuts their brains off, and you get a lot of "blah blah blah ginger" going on.

That's why I normally think it's a waste of time to "explain" art. Yes, it is a form of communication, BUT it should be self explanatory and the meaning changes for each viewer.YOUR explanation is not MY explanation, and that's fine, that's how it should be.

People who NEED to explain it verbally to other people are imposing their view OR don't really want to admit they didn't actually look at it and let themselves be affected by it, so they are restating something someone else said about it without the power of understanding to fuel their words.

schools, influences, labels... they are all, at their base, meaningless. The real thing to understand is your internal thoughts about it. Art is simple, art is pure communication, visual depiction, music, dance they have no language barrier, all beings can be influenced by them see/hear/feel/do them.

It's the universal language, as simple as a smile and as complex as the history of the world.

Anything else is teaching a pig to whistle.

Number 2 and number 3

I heard back from the second lit agency today, they liked it but weren't interested.

So did I wallow? Cry? NO! I sent it right out again! Two agencies isn't a brick wall!  ( I think 14 agencies is the brick wall)

(although I have to admit that I am beginning to worry that I might need to find a way to narrow the focus a little on who I send it to, since two agencies now have said they like it but it's not quite their thing.)

I finished the illustrations for the next idea I had, but need to lay it out and do a cover for it.

Not sure what the etiquette is on sending that one for considerations at agencies who did not like the first one. It is different (vastly; illustrations are simpler, different media and it's not at all the same as far as story goes at all.) Unsure if I should submit it separately or hold it till an agent takes me and then let them know I've got another ready to go or what.

Agency #3 wants to know if you've got other stuff ready, so I included the fact that it exists and what state it is in and that I hope to make a series of it, but since they want the whole shee-bang for submission and it's not ready I offered to send sample pages on request. (of course I sent them the whole shee-bang on the first one...pdf baby!)

I am so clueless about this. It is not similar in any way shape or form to submitting art to places. I am trying to follow all the advice I can find from reliable sources, but in the end I am only a first time writer.

Although I will say the lit agency rejections tend to be MUCH more professional and nice than recent art rejections ( in the last year I got two art rejections that were written by 12 year old howler monkeys with no education, but two rude no's in a sea of yes's is nothing when you've been doing that this long.) So that's an interesting and refreshing difference.

number crunching and why there's not been dailies

In looking over the financial stuff for the last year, I realize that the dailies just aren't supporting themselves. Print sales are going okay, but I really need some of the original dailies to go. I mean we are really broke, and they are taking up WAY too much room in the studio. and the amount I get from the prints only justifies advertising for more print sales.

I am not talking "sell out" here I am talking the difference between having materials, food, rent, electricity etc.

Of course having enough to fix my car would help then I could get some art fairs and galleries going, as it stands now I can't get anywhere to get more art out there. Even just sitting out at a busy coffee house on a sunny day and doing aceo's watercolors all day would help, but I can't do that. (see previous entry about being loathe to ask someone to give up a day sitting around and doing nothing while I do that)

So I think for now the dailies are just gonna have to wait till I sell a few. I am seriously low on matierials, and I need to stretch them out. It just doesn't make sense to spend time and materials on them just to do them at this point.

That said,

if you want to help out and buy an original some of them are for sale here and more of them are for sale here

If you saw one posted here you want but it is not listed for sale on either site, leave me a comment and I will make a listing for it and send you the link.

If you would like to help with supplies my dick blick wish list is here Supports (papers, canvas, panels etc) are the main thing I am running out of fast.
